This information applies to all students on both Junior and Senior Campus, Montessori and High Capacity programs.

The National Assessment Program – Literacy and Numeracy (NAPLAN) is an annual assessment for students in Years 3, 5, 7 and 9.

It will be held on 11, 12 & 13th of May 2021 with Friday being the day to complete a 'catch up' test if your child is absent.

NAPLAN tests the sorts of skills that are essential for every child to progress through school and life, such as reading, writing, spelling and numeracy. The assessments are undertaken nationwide, every year, in the second full week in May.

NAPLAN is made up of tests in the four areas of:
  • Reading
  • Writing
  • Language Conventions (spelling, grammar and punctuation)
  • Numeracy.
NAPLAN tests are a routine part of the school calendar. However, students may be withdrawn from the testing program by their parent/carer if there are religious beliefs or philosophical objections to testing. This is a matter for consideration by individual parents/carers.  If you choose to withdraw your child please inform the college by completing a withdrawal form which can be collected from either the Junior or Senior Campus office. The form must be received by the principal prior to the testing.

NAPLAN assesses literacy and numeracy skills that students are already learning through the school curriculum. Teachers will ensure that students are familiar with the test formats and will provide appropriate support and guidance. Excessive preparation is not useful and can lead to unnecessary anxiety. If you have any questions about your child's preparation for NAPLAN, you are encouraged to make a time to speak with their teacher.

NAPLAN tests are constructed to give students an opportunity to demonstrate skills they have learned over time through the school curriculum, and NAPLAN test days should be treated as just another routine event on the school calendar. The best way you can help your child prepare for NAPLAN is to reassure them that NAPLAN tests are just one part of their school program, and to urge them to simply do the best they can on the day. It is also recommended that students have a good sleep and healthy breakfast each day.

The College will notify you when the reports are being sent home. The same report format is used for every student in Australia.

If you feel that you would like to withdraw your student for Religious or philosophical beliefs, please contact the Administration Office of either campus to leave a message on 38239111.

I encourage all students to do their best on the day.

Principal
